REDCAR and Cleveland Council's street lighting improvement programme has reached another major milestone - and Saltburn resident Mrs Elisabeth Trencham, in particular, is delighted.
For the new column that now brightens up the street outside Mrs Trencham's home in Victoria Road, Saltburn is the 15,000th to be installed in the ongoing Public Private Partnership with David Webster Limited (DWL), that began in September, 2007.
And Mrs Trencham was both surprised and pleased to be invited to take part in the street celebration to mark the occasion, which also looks forward to the completion of the scheme ahead of schedule this summer.
The Council's Cabinet Member for Highways, Transportation and Planning Councillor Mary Lanigan, who presented Mrs Trencham with a bouquet, said: "We are delighted with the progress being made - and the feedback from the public."
"It has been a major project for the Council, very successfully managed and it's delivering significant improvements."
"Originally, we expected the replacement programme to take five years, but we drew up a three-year schedule and we're ahead of that, too. So it's well done to everyone concerned."
Mrs Trencham said: "I think everyone in the street appreciates that the new lights are definitely an improvement and in keeping with the streetscene."
DWL Deputy Managing Director John Barker said: "We are delighted that substantial progress has been made with ongoing installation works."
"It's evident in the significant improvement to the Council’s street lighting infrastructure which brings benefits to the Borough and its community.”
