Redcar & Cleveland Street Lighting PFI - 1st Milestone Achieved

A major 25 year project to improve the street lighting in Redcar & Cleveland reached its first milestone on Tuesday 8th April 2008 with 480 columns being removed!

In 2007, the Council entered into a partnership with Redcar & Cleveland Lighting Services – a consortium of David Webster Limited (DW) and Land Securities Trillium (formerly Investors in the Community) - to provide street lighting services to 135,000 inhabitants located in the north of England.

Under the £46m PFI Project, DW are responsible for replacing 15,000 columns - 85 per cent of the existing stock - with modern, high quality lights with another 2,500 columns being added in a phased programme over the next three years.

On the morning of the first Network Board meeting on the 8th April, the Independent Certifier issued the Certificate stating that the first milestone had been achieved with 480 columns being removed in total. Contractually 465 columns had been due to be removed nine months after service commencement date, meaning that DW was seven weeks ahead of schedule!

Simon Dale, Director of Area Management with Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council congratulated DW and confirmed he was pleased and encouraged with the progress to date.

This is a true celebration of great team work to achieve a mutual goal.
