3,000th Column Lights Up PFI Contract
David Webster Limited and Enfield Council are celebrating the 3,000th lighting
column being installed in Enfield under the 25 year PFI Street Lighting Contract.
The council entered a partnership with Enfield Lighting Services - a consortium
of David Webster Limited (DW) and LS Trillium (formerly Investors in the Community),
to make Enfield’s streets brighter and safer by installing approximately
21,000 street lights and 4,000 signs and bollards across the Borough by 2011.
DW is a subsidiary of ETDE and the Bouygues Group and is one of the major
street lighting service providers in the UK.
The 3,000
th lighting column was installed
in Ensign Drive, N13 by Councillor Terry Neville – Lead Member for the
Environment and Bertrand Richard – DW Managing Director on Tuesday,
18th September 2007.
The five year £24m Borough wide investment programme to improve lighting
standards commenced in October 2006 and will be using new technology as well
as being the first Borough to trial solar powered bollards.
Cllr Terry Neville, cabinet lead for environment and streetscene said: “
This
shows that we are on schedule to meet our target of 21,000 new lighting units
by 2011. Upgrading old stock will mean that Enfield’s streets will be
lighter and brighter bringing with it an improved environment for all. This
will mean safer roads for pedestrians and drivers alike and less crime.”
